Sat, 19 Sep, 6:30am - 9:30am AEST

Description

Meet with Rod and Eileen, two of Mooloolah River Landcare's volunteers, at 6:30am! It's an early start, and will allow us to utilise the low tide at 7:30am.

The walk will commence from Outrigger Park, Minyama. There is limited parking in Outrigger Park itself but an open area opposite the Park has ample parking.

The Sunshine Coast is a key site for migratory shorebirds, which arrive in September, flying over 10,000 kilometres non-stop from Arctic breeding grounds in Alaska and Siberia.

The walk will take about 2 hours and there is a bit of rough scrambling to get into the mangroves (and rubber boots might be handy).

Although not a prime spot for shorebirds, the Mooloolah River is often visited at low tide. There are generally a good range of foreshore/forest birds and we should see a few migratory birds on the mud flats - the mangroves are quite thick.

Please bring suitable clothing, footwear, a hat and water bottle. Bring along snacks if you're likely to get hungry!

Hope to see you there.  Further enquiries can be emailed to treasurer@mrwl.org.au

This event is supported by the Sunshine Coast Council Grant's Program.
