Event description

For public servants new to creative bureaucracy, those who want to do things differently but don’t know where to start, and those who want to start using ‘design’ methods and approaches.

Across NSW, we see pockets of excellence and creative bureaucrats in handfuls across the various sectors, all working to achieve better socioeconomic outcomes for citizens.

But to tackle the complex problems that we all face today, there must be more of us willing to think creatively, use new methods and approaches, and, most importantly, listen to and design with our users.

But how do we encourage more of us to do this? Using design methods, we’re first going to explore our problem and understand our users.

This session will focus on bringing together those of us ‘new’ to design and those who aren’t using these methods yet but want to. We will explore all the barriers that participants face, internal and external, to adopting new or creative approaches.

If you’re someone who wants to be more human centered in your work but can’t because:

  • you might not have the expertise,
  • don’t think you can with the work you do,
  • don’t know where to start,
  • don’t have leadership support to do so, or
  • don’t feel confident in doing so,

We invite you to come along and share with us what barriers you face and where they exist, how much of an impact they have, and what you want to do/have done already to overcome them.

If you use these tools already or have worked in teams who have tried to adopt new ways of doing things, we’d love you to join us to share your experiences as well.

We are also hosting a second workshop session on Wednesday 26 March, which is designed to unpack the barriers identified, explore them in more depth and begin to co-create ideas for overcoming these barriers. So if you can - sign up and join us for both!

We want this to be an inclusive and accessible event, so if cost (or anything else) is a barrier to attend, please let us know so we can find a way for you to join us.
