    Event description

As Australia works towards being the first country to eliminate cervical cancer by 2035, it’s critical that no one is left behind.

Currently, three-quarters of those diagnosed with cervical cancer have either never been screened or are overdue for screening. Women and people with a cervix who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, Multicultural, LGBTQIA+, live in regional and remote areas or live with disability have significantly lower cervical screening rates due to barriers they experience to screening.

Along with all campaign partners, the Australia Government is proud to be launching two national campaigns, Own It' and 'Screen Me!' While these campaigns differ in delivery and scale, both aim to increase cervical screening awareness among women and people with a cervix across Australia,

The campaigns will be launched by the Hon Ged Kearney MP, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care and Assistant Minister for Indigenous Health. We will also hear from leading cervical screening clinicians who are trailblazers for elimination and equity in screening. A panel discussion will explore reasons why increased awareness is critical, featuring members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Multicultural, LGBTQIA+, disability, and regional and remote communities.

The event is hosted by Elly Desmarchelier, a dedicated disability advocate, writer, and speaker, and will premiere exclusive short films and campaign materials.

This event is designed to be accessible and inclusive for all women and people with a cervix.

We look forward to your participation as we work together to ensure everyone has access to life-saving cervical screenings.
