Event description

In May INNZ looks forward to our first webinar of the year, focusing on data sovereignty and copyright. Attendees will learn about the caretaking of data in Aotearoa, and how to acknowledge the works of others in our practice. Join speakers Moira Apiti-Civcic (Auckland Council) and Phoebe Shum (Auckland War Memorial Museum) to learn about their respective expertise in data sovereignty and copyright.

Moira Apiti-Civcic is a Māori data sovereignty specialist working with Auckland Council. She will talk about issues we face in managing and protecting Māori taonga and especially ‘data’ and will share some ways to improve our practices.

Phoebe Shum has a background in copyright licensing and research, and over the last decade has coordinated copyright permissions for more than 20 documentary films and television series both locally and internationally. She will talk about the key considerations for copyright in images, film and music in Aotearoa today.
