Our West Listens: Plan and Run Your Community Listening Session (in person workshop WERRIBEE)
Description
Is your organisation interested in taking part in Our West Listens?
Our West Listens is the community listening campaign of the Our West Our Future Alliance. By April 2027, organisations in the Alliance aim to listen to 1,000 people across Melbourne’s west.
This practical, participatory workshop will help you plan and run your own listening conversation with your organisation or community. You might call it a Table Talk, listening circle, community conversation or something else that works for your people.
During the workshop, you will:
take part in a Table Talk and experience the kind of conversation at the heart of Our West Listens
learn how to plan and facilitate a welcoming listening session
explore how to adapt the process for your community, culture and existing gatherings
practise listening for the pressures people are experiencing and where there may be energy to act
begin planning your own community listening session.
Community listening is the beginning, not the end. The stories gathered through Our West Listens will help the Alliance identify shared priorities, research possible solutions and build towards community-led action.
This workshop is for people connected to organisations and community groups who want to help their communities be heard and play an active part in Our West Listens.
No previous community-organising experience is needed.
***To allow as many organisations as possible to participate, please register a maximum of two people from each organisation. If you would like more people from your organisation or group to be trained, please contact Angela directly to discuss options.
