Owyhee Webinar: Adventures on the Oregon Desert Trail
Event description
Do you need inspiration for that next backpacking trip? Join the Oregon Natural Desert Association for an introduction to one of the most challenging long-distance trails in the country: the Oregon Desert Trail. This 750-mile route traverses some stunning natural features in the high desert like the Owyhee Canyonlands, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, and Steens Mountain. Trail Coordinator Renee Patrick will cover the basics of hitting the trail, share some stories from her 2016 hike of the whole route, and share tips to help in planning your next adventure in the high desert.
About the speaker
Renee is responsible for establishing the 750-mile Oregon Desert Trail for the Oregon Natural Desert Association, a desert conservation organization based in Bend, OR. She brings well over 12,000 miles of thru-hiking experience and a rich cross-section of wilderness teaching skills with her to the desert. She has completed the triple crown of long-distance trails in the United States—Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail—in addition to leading trail crews, guiding wilderness therapy trips, and teaching lightweight backpacking. When she’s not sleeping on the ground and covering 30 miles a day, she can be found packrafting, skiing, biking, or hiking around central Oregon.
