Sea Synergy Oyster Project – Final Community Event 2026
Description
Join Sea Synergy & Portmagee Tidy Towns for the final community event of the Sea Synergy Oyster Project – Phase 2, bringing together the work carried out this year to better understand the deeper parts of the Portmagee Channel.
Over the course of the project (5 years now), Sea Synergy has been investigating the channel’s native European oyster (Ostrea edulis) population and associated marine biodiversity, building our understanding of this important local marine habitat.
At this relaxed evening event, we will share the latest results from our oyster monitoring and biodiversity surveys, what we have learned about the deeper parts of the channel, and what these findings could mean for the future protection and potential restoration of the area.
Most importantly, this is also an opportunity for the community to get involved. We want to hear your observations, knowledge and ideas and discuss how we can work together to protect and restore the Portmagee Channel into the future.
Whether you have participated in previous project activities, live locally, work on or around the water, or are simply interested in marine life and conservation, you are very welcome.
The project is possible thanks to the support of the Heritage Council.
