Introduction

The 'Ask the Professional' events are free and recognised as professional development for many organisations.

Join OZeWAI members and guests, including knowledgeable digital accessibility experts, specialists and researchers from all over the world, as well as leaders in the industry, government and non-profit organisations, to explore and support digital inclusion topics and ideas.

This panel event will bring together accessibility specialists for you to:

• Ask questions of the experts 

• Share knowledge of similar issues

• Find where to get help with accessibility advice and expertise

Panelists:

Eric Eggert (he/him)

Eric has worked on, in, and with Web Accessibility since 2008. Between 2013 and 2020, he worked with W3C/WAI on educational material around accessibility. Since then he worked with companies large and small to improve the accessibility of their digital products. His work includes teaching, auditing, and finding sustainable accessibility solutions.

Patrick Lauke (he/him)

Patrick is a Principal Accessibility Specialist at TetraLogical. He specialises in accessibility testing and standards development for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

He is a member and active contributor in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines working group where he leads the efforts of the WCAG 2.x Backlog Task Force, chair and co-editor of the W3C Pointer Events specification, and co-editor of the ARIA in HTML and W3C Touch Events Level 2 specifications.

In a previous life, he was Principal Accessibility Engineer at TPGi, and before that worked as Web Evangelist in the Developer Relations team at Opera Software. He's co-organiser of the Inclusive Design 24 (#id24) conference, and has been involved in the discourse around Web Standards and Accessibility since 2001, actively speaking at conferences and participating in early initiatives such as the Web Standards Project (WaSP).

Sarah Pulis (she/her)

Sarah is co-founder and director of Intopia. She is known for her expertise, advocacy, and contributions to promoting inclusive design and accessibility in digital products and services. Even though she's affectionately called the "Walking WCAG" by her colleagues, her work extends beyond the technical aspects of accessibility, emphasising the importance of user experience and inclusive design principles.

Sarah Pulis has been actively involved in the accessibility community for 13 years, working to ensure that websites, applications, and other digital platforms are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. She has worked as a consultant, trainer, and speaker, helping organisations understand and implement accessibility best practices.

Sarah has played a key role in raising awareness about the importance of accessibility through her contribution to various accessibility initiatives, including as co-founder of major accessibility events A11y Bytes and A11y Camp.

Gian Wild (she/her)

Gian Wild works in the area of web accessibility: making sure web sites and mobile apps can be used by people with disabilities. Gian has worked in the accessibility industry since 1998. She worked on the first Level AAA accessible web site in Australia (Disability Information Victoria) and developed one of the first automated accessibility testing tools, PurpleCop, in 2000.  She spent six years contributing to the international set of web accessibility guidelines used around the world, the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Gian Wild is the CEO, Founder and President of AccessibilityOz, established in Australia in 2011 and the United States in 2015. Gian is the Chair of the Mobile Site and Native App Mobile Accessibility Guidelines, is active on the Higher Education Content Steering Group for Accessibility Switchboard, as well as a committee member of the ICT Accessibility Testing Symposium conference in the United States.

Gian speaks at both web and accessibility conferences around the world, including in the United States, Europe, South America and Canada. In June 2015, Gian presented to the United Nations on the importance of web accessibility at the Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. In 2019, Gian won the inaugural Accessibility Person of the Year in Australia.
