Delirium - Daily, Distressing and Dangerous In person Aug 27 8:30am-10:00am ticket
In this session, we will reflect on the devastating impact of delirium on patients, carers, staff and the healthcare system. The rate of delirium as a hospital-acquired complication at PA Hospital is significantly higher than the statewide average. We will consider PAH data as well as review delirium epidemiology internationally and nationally. We will present case studies and hear about the lived experience of delirium from patients, carers, and PA healthcare professionals before a leading clinical researcher outlines an approach to delirium-related distress assessment and management. We will explore the wide range of adverse outcomes affecting patients and the health system and hear from an emerging leader in dementia epidemiology about the risk of patient-important outcomes, including dementia and entry to nursing home, following delirium. The session will conclude with an outline of key components of high-quality delirium care and a 'Call to Arms' for delirium prevention and management at PA Hospital.
