Paint Your Piece is designed as a relaxed, self guided experience so you can settle in and enjoy the process at your own pace anywhere within MOA & co.
It’s a chance to slow down, add colour and pattern, and create something uniquely yours. Ideal for kids looking for a creative outlet, families wanting a mindful day out, or anyone craving hands-on, screen-free time with coffee nearby.
You’re invited to:
choose a handmade cup, plate, or tag
experiment with colour, pattern, and brushstrokes
try ideas and play with design (view our design ideas here)
enjoy the process at your own pace.
Think of it like adding your personal touch to something already made, you come for the experience, the shared moment, and the joy of creating something meaningful without mess or pressure.
Once you're finished, fill out this online firing form to notify us of your finished creation.
There’s coffee and food available on site through MOA & co, so you can sip and snack while you paint.

How it works
1 ~ Book your session
All sessions are booked online via Humanitix. You’re welcome to drop in on the day or pre-book ahead.
2 ~ Choose your piece
Select your chosen piece and gather your shared tools from the tools shelf on the wall.
3 ~ Prep Your Piece
Head to the sink in the bathroom to give your piece a quick rinse, or gently dampen a sponge and wipe it down to prepare it for painting.
4 ~ Sketch or dive in
Use a HB pencil to sketch out your design, these marks will disappear in the firing. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, just go for it and freehand your design.
5 ~ Paint your piece
Except the bottom, leave that clear. One coat will give you a lovely watercolour effect, or water it down even more on your paint palette. If you want a solid coverage, go for 2-3 coats. Colours will get even more vibrant in the firing process.
6 ~ Return your painted piece
Once you’re finished, fill out the online form and place it on the "Paint Your Piece to be fired" shelf. Pop any used tools into the "Used Tools" tray.
FAQs
- What does "self-directed" mean?
Self-directed means you have the freedom to explore and paint at your own pace, without formal instruction. We provide all the tools, materials, and a brief guide, so you can let your creativity flow and enjoy the process independently.
- Do I need to book in advance?
Sessions are booked online through Humanitix. You can pre-book your spot to guarantee access, or drop in during the session window if space is available.
- What’s included in the cost?
The cost covers your chosen piece, use of paints, brushes, tools, glazing, and firing.
- How long does the session take?
Most people spend 1-2 hours painting, but you’re welcome to take as long as you need during MOA & co's open hours.
- When will my piece be ready?
After painting, we’ll glaze and fire your piece. This process takes about 1-3 weeks. We’ll notify you via email as soon as it’s ready for collection.
- Can I do it with a friend?
Yes, your purchase includes painting your chosen piece, so if you wish to share it with a friend please do!
- Can I take my piece home right after painting?
Not just yet! We need to glaze and fire your piece first, which takes about 1-3 weeks.
- Can I bring my own piece to paint?
For best results, we ask you to use our bisque-fired pieces, as pre-glazed items don’t absorb paint well.
