Event description

Join us for an evening of traditional and contemporary Palestinian songs in solidarity with the People of Palestine.

Ayşe Göknur Shanal is one of Australia's most versatile singers. She has performed in USA, Germany, France, Ireland, India, Japan, Turkey, England, Scotland and Wales. She has worked with Opera Australia, Turkish State Opera and Opera Queensland. She has been a guest artist in many festivals. Ayşe will be joined by Tarık Hüseyin (kanun), Zak Partoredjo (guitar) and Tareq Halawa (percussion).

This concert was presented to the Diplomatic Corps in Canberra, Australia, on 18th April 2024 at the Turkish Embassy, receiving standing ovation for several minutes and was praised by Arts reviewer Len Power, of Canberra City News. https://citynews.com.au/2024/soprano-adds-emotion-to-songs-of-struggle-and-loss/

Music is one of the most important artistic expressions in preserving culture, language, history and connection to country/land/heritage. It is more important now, than ever, to keep Palestinian culture and music in the forefront, to inspire, to heal, to strengthen, to create awareness, to break down the walls of oppression and of dehumanisation.
