Palestine Solidarity Sukkot
Event description
October 6-13 is the Jewish festival of Sukkot. During Sukkot, Jewish people are reminded that our ancestors once wandered as freed slaves and refugees, living in temporary shelters. We mark this by building sukkahs: roofless, four-sided structures. To show that we have learned from the travails of the past, Jewish tradition calls us to open our sukkahs to strangers in celebration of shelter, food, and connection.
We cannot celebrate while Israel inflicts genocide and famine on the people of Palestine. The only way to remain true to the tradition of Sukkot is to stand in solidarity with Palestinian, First Peoples and allied communities in so-called Australia. This year, our sukkah will be a space of resistance, inter-community connection, and commitment to never again for all peoples.
We are hosting a grassroots Palestine Solidarity Sukkot fundraiser on October 12 in an outdoor CBD location after the regular Sunday protest.
Please join us to:
Fundraise for PARA (Palestine Australia Relief Action) and ActionAid’s Gaza Appeal.
Engage in meaningful inter-community building based on a commitment to justice.
Continue calling on the Australian government to take meaningful action—including sanctions—against the Israeli government.
Experience Jewish tradition outside of the political ideology of Zionism.
Note: this is a grassroots event, organised by members of the Jewish community in Naarm who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they struggle against Israeli apartheid, occupation and genocide. You can contact us via jewishvoice4justice@gmail.com.
