Event description

Hi friends!

Please join us for a morning of craft & solidarity as we come together to admire and begin learning Tatreez - Palestinian embroidery characterised by its colourful, symbolic motifs that are stitched onto clothing such as the Palestinian Thobe.

Tatreez is a visual language that reflects Palestinian history, culture, identity and storytelling.

I am not of Palestinian descent and I am not a Tatreez artist (that is for Palestinian bloodlines to claim and embody). I am a crafty girlie who has been hand embroidering for the last 4-5 years and I've been learning Tatreez since early 2024; as a way to be with my grief, "regulate" my nervous system/resource myself, and learn more about Palestinian art, culture and history. It's also a great form of subtle activism if you take your project out-and-about ;)

This workshop is perfect if you are brand new to embroidery and cross-stitch and you will receive Aida cloth, a needle, embroidery thread/floss and an email full of resources to learn more directly from Palestinian Tatreez artists around the world.

Children are welcome, there will be space for them to play but it will be unsupervised so we simply ask that you keep an eye on them. If your child is old enough to participate and would like their own materials, please note that there are no discounted children's tickets.

All proceeds will go to The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children's Fund who are doing incredible work in providing medical treatment to the children of Gaza and Lebanon who need it most. Please see here for more info.

We also have free tickets available for Palestinians, please reach out - hello@klyne.love
