Event description

For our movie session, we will be watching “Palestinians Don’t Need Sidewalks”. It will be streamed across zoom. It takes you on a journey through the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The screening will be across zoom at 3 PM on 30 November 2025 Adelaide time. That is 3.30 PM in Sydney and Melbourne and 2.30 PM in Brisbane.

Cost is $20 for an adult and there are cheaper prices for concessions and children. There is also a family price of $50 for a family of 2 adults and 2 or more kids. If this time is not suitable, there is even a pay it forward ticket which you can purchase to buy a ticket for someone who wants to come but can't afford to. Please, if you are purchasing a pay it forward ticket email me on chris@schmidt4sturt.au and tell me so that I can offer it to someone and email them the zoom link,

The zoom link will be emailed out once your ticket order is confirmed. You can also still make a donation to our fundraiser. The links are on the bottom of the page.

I decided, with the permission of the producers Dare to Struggle Films, to use this as a fundraiser for my two refugee projects. Hassan is an Afghan human rights journalist who fled to Pakistan. He is also a registered nurse and has been offered a job in Brisbane in aged care. He has been granted a special skilled visa to come to Australia. We need to still raise about $20 000 for final costs, airfares and settlement in Australia.

The second project I am raising funds for is called Butterfly of Hope. Butterfly of Hope Humanitarian organisation is new charity starting that will be fully registered with the ACNC here in Australia.

During the first nine months of 2025, over 2.5 million Afghans have been forced to return to Afghanistan. These people often don’t have the basics such as food, clothing and shelter. Of particular concern are the women and children, with thousands of those returned being unaccompanied minors. They are prone to radicalisation by the Taliban and often don’t receive adequate education. The girls are prone to forced marriage and human trafficking. This leads to an ongoing cycle of abuse and radicalisation, which Butterfly of Hope aims to break through meeting their basic needs and education.

75% of money made from the film will be split between Hassan and Butterfly of Hope. 25% will go to Dare to Struggle Films. They donate some of that money to Hebron Human Rights Defenders on the West Bank.

This is the latest documentary from Dare to Struggle Films. During the journey through the West Bank, we will meet local Palestinians who describe the reality of life under Israeli occupation.

For this film they partnered with the Hebron Human Rights Defenders, who gathered footage of daily Palestinian life, Israeli crimes and attacks on young children. They also conducted interviews that reflect on life for Palestinians after October 7.

The film also looks at Australia’s complicity with the Israeli genocide, particularly through the Australian government’s commitment to reinvigorating its manufacturing base by integrating into the US military supply chain. It also touches on the role of the mainstream media and how the Zionist lobby has managed to control the information that is presented via these channels. This film goes way beyond how mainstream media portrays Israel. It is a film well worth seeing.
