LGBTQI+ Culturally Appropriate Care for NSW Palliative Care Volunteers

About: As a palliative care volunteer, you play a vital role in supporting some of the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQI+ community. But are you truly prepared to provide culturally appropriate, affirming care? Our upcoming training session, "LGBTQI+ Culturally Appropriate Care for NSW Palliative Care Volunteers," is designed to give you the knowledge and tools to create a safe, inclusive environment for your LGBTQI+ clients. Over the course of this interactive session, you'll learn:

    • Setting the context and creating safety for the session
    • Unpacking the acronym
    • Understanding the difference between sex/gender/sexuality
    • The impact of history on queer people (especially in the context of older people/ end of life/ trusting healthcare)
    • Overview of flags/symbols/etc
    • Inclusive language/pronouns/etc
    • How to be an ally
    • Small but achievable steps people can take in their roles to be more inclusive

Jen’s passion is working to make the world safer for queer people of all ages. During their career in palliative care they lead the co-design of a queer inclusive palliative care “toolkit,” and in their personal life they have founded an all-gender cricket team in Geelong.
