Event description

Get in the holiday spirit with this conversation and celebration of the classic Christmas poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Author Pamela McColl will walk us through the history of the poem along with a discussion of cultural customs surrounding the Christmas holiday!

This event is free to attend, however, it helps us in planning to receive your RSVP.

About the Book:

In celebration of the bicentennial of the Christmas season’s most well-known and oft-recited poem, “A Visit From St. Nicholas” (also commonly referred to as “ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas”), McColl provides a collection of illustrations, snippets of literature, and historical tidbits related to Clement Clark Moore’s renowned rhyme.

The author’s illuminating peek into the formulation and reception of the poem is well organized, with lovely, colorful images from various sources peppering the pages of text. Readers are given not only the background of the poem—written in 1822 and published in 1823—but also the origins of St. Nicholas and the varying cultural customs tied to Christmas throughout history.

About the Author:

In 2012, Pamela McColl published a revised edition of Twas The Night Before Christmas that attracted international media attention. From The Colbert Report to the BBC, her decision to edit out the reference to Santa Claus smoking a pipe was a topic over dinner tables. In appreciation of the classic poem marking a bi-centennial anniversary in 2022/2023, McColl brings her extensive knowledge of the poem's history to this new publication. McColl studied art and history and went on to do graduate work in the field of cultural history before working as a corporate art consultant for 20 years. From there she launched an art and book publication company in 1997. This latest book production is the culmination of ten years of research into the 200 year history of the poem.
