Pan de Amor: Passing the Tradition
Event description
Join us for a special Día de los Muertos bread-making workshop honoring community tradition bearer Mary Lou Valencia, who has been baking pan de muerto for altars and the community for almost 30 years. This is her last workshop at WorldBeat Center after over 20 years and passing of the baton—sharing her knowledge, recipes, and blessings with the next generation.
🕯️ Sunday, October 26 | 1–5 PM — “Working the Masa”
(Preparando la Masa)
Participants will learn how to create the masa for pan de muerto, guided by Mary Lou.
List of Ingredients and Tools
Ingredients
Small box of sugar
5 lb bag of flour
Oil of choice
Minimum 4 eggs (one always breaks, lol)
Tools
Medium or large mixing bowl for dough
Measuring cups and spoons
Small knife
Scissors
Baking tray
Kitchen towel or clean cloth to cover dough while it rises

Caja pequeña de azúcar
Bolsa de 5 libras de harina
Aceite de tu preferencia
Mínimo 4 huevos (siempre se rompe uno, jaja)
Herramientas:
Tazón mediano o grande para mezclar la masa
Tazas y cucharas medidoras
Cuchillo pequeño
Tijeras
Charola para hornear
Toalla de cocina o paño limpio para cubrir la masa mientras reposa
