Hear from powerful voices of First Nations creative artists from Australia and the Pacific as they respond to the relentless archiving of their lives, bodies, and culture through archival institutions. Through poetry, song, ceremony, dance, film, and storytelling, they reclaim their narratives. South Australian Museum curators will discuss the vital process of indigenizing archives. Speakers in this panel discussion include: Daniel Riley: Wiradjuri performer, choreographer, previously with Bangarra Dance Company; now Artistic Director, Australian Dance Theatre. Dan Taulapapa McMullin: queer artist, film maker and poet from Sāmoa i Sasa'e (American Samoa).
Kim Scott: Noongar man, multi award-winning novelist and language revivalist from WA.
Jared Thomas: Nukunu author, researcher and curator, SA Museum. John Carty: art historian, museum curator and Professor, SA Museum. Natalie Harkin: Narungga woman and poet from South Australia whose work decolonises the state's colonial archive through 'archival-poetics'. Moderated by Maggie Tonkin, senior lecturer in the School of Humanities at the University of Adelaide. |
