Pāngarau Unleashed: secondary mathematics without streaming
Event description
Streaming, also known as ‘ability grouping’, has been the norm is secondary mathematics for decades. However, in recent years, students, teachers, whānau, iwi, policy makers and researchers have increasingly described streaming as unjust and ineffective.
In this public lecture, Kay-Lee Jones, David Pomeroy and Sara Tolbert share their research, in collaboration with five diverse schools, on effective transitions to non-streamed mathematics. They will investigate the sources of the key controversies, and share some of the triumphs and dilemmas that the de-streaming transition involves.
