Description
The Institute of Sikh Studies NZ is pleased to announce a new intake for Panjabi Language Learning – Level 1 (Batch 7), starting on 25 July2026.
This course is designed for adults and youth aged 16+ who wish to learn the Panjabi language in a simple, structured, and supportive environment. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who understands Panjabi but cannot read or write, this course provides a strong foundation to begin your Panjabi language journey.
Over the course of 10 classes, participants will learn to read and write basic Gurmukhi script, build essential vocabulary, and gain the confidence to initiate basic Panjabi conversations. The course also supports learners in understanding Panjabi used in everyday communication, as well as simple Panjabi and Gurbani texts.
Classes are taught in English, and no prior experience with Panjabi is required. All learning materials are provided as part of the course.
The Institute of Sikh Studies NZ has successfully conducted multiple Panjabi Language Level 1 batches for adults, with strong community participation and positive outcomes. Details of previous batches are available on our website:

Course Outcomes
By completing this course, participants will be able to:
Recognise and read the Gurmukhi alphabet.
Write basic Panjabi words and simple sentences.
Pronounce Panjabi sounds correctly.
Use basic Panjabi for everyday conversation.
Develop confidence to continue learning Panjabi at higher levels.
Course Structure
This is a 10-class beginner programme, delivered once a week in a classroom-based setting. The course follows a progressive learning approach, where each class builds on the previous one. Regular attendance is highly recommended for the best learning outcomes.
