Event description
Paper-Cuts presents Artificial / B(if)tek (Live), miscmeg & Ivy, Paper-Cuts - Friday October 17th, 2025 @ Miscellania ⇢ 10pm-3am ⦿
This October we return to Miscellania with one our favourite artists, Nicole Skeltys aka Artificial / B(if)tek (Live).
Nicole Skeltys is an influential Australian musician and producer best known for her work in the pioneering electro-femme outfit B(if)tek and her solo project Artificial. As B(if)tek, she partnered with Kate Crawford to create a raw, futuristic, analogue-driven sound, drifting between ambient, experimental, and fiery dance music/electronica "feminism with a wink and a bleep."
Active from the mid-1990s to early 2000s, B(if)tek released three acclaimed albums, including Sub-Vocal Theme Park, Frequencies Will Move Together and 2020. In parallel, Skeltys released playful, genre-bending electronic music as Artificial, known for quirky albums like Electro-Lollipop-Explosion, Libraries Are Fun and the Stoner Classix Vol 1-3 series.
While B(if)tek delved into deeper electronic exploration, it also carried a distinctly playful and witty edge, combining sharp production with a sense of fun and stylistic flair. Artificial extended this sensibility in a more solo, freeform direction, where Skeltys experimented with an "eccentric mixture of deep analogue bleeps, hillbilly house, fizzy disco, arthouse movie samples."
Fast-track to 2025 and it's our pleasure to welcome Nicole back to the stage performing released (and unreleased) material from the Artificial / B(if)tek era.
