Parent & Carer Session: Gaming in Your Family
Event description
Join us for a virtual session where we'll discuss navigating the challenges of technology usage and parenting in today's digital age!
Welcome to our Parent & Carer Session: Gaming in Your Family!
For pre-teen and teenage children, gaming can be a social activity that encourages cooperation, group problem-solving and teamwork. It can also be a way for children to unwind or explore their creative sides. But you’re not alone if you don’t really understand what’s going on when your child plays video games or whether the games they’re playing are right for them. This workshop will offer you tangible ideas and approaches to help you turn gaming into a positive, pro social experience for your child. Taking away some of the concern and guilt and giving you a broader perspective of video game culture and young people.
Who will present?
Meet our Digital Innovation Manager, Daniel Donahoo.
Daniel has spent more than two decades working with children, young people and families in government, not for profit and education organisations.
Daniel is the author of children, family, media and technology “Idolising Children” and co-author of “Adproofing Your Kids” and his writing and ideas have appeared in The Age, Herald Sun, The Australian and many other publications.
He has produced educational apps with Bell Shakespeare, created learning resources for Bluey and the ABC, and worked with teachers and schools to improve student outcomes in a wide range of projects and programs with a focus on technology, ethical behaviours and relationships.
What are Parent & Carer Sessions?
PROJECT ROCKIT offers a suite of workshops for parents that help them understand their child’s experience in the digital world and offers advice on the ways to foster better relationships with your children and digital technology.
Our Parenting Sessions are only available to parents whose schools are signed up to PROJECT ROCKIT PLUS, our platform that supports our in school workshops with teacher resources, student voiced videos and parent materials.
All sessions for parents are free and they can receive access to any event through a link provided by their school (which is likely how you have found this event!)
