Parent Climate Cafe
Event description
We know that parenting in these challenging times can feel intense and overwhelming, which is why emotional support lies at the heart of our mahi.
Our online Parent Climate Cafe is a space for small groups of parents and carers to share their feelings about the climate crisis by supporting one another and shared solidarity.
WHAT IS A PARENT CLIMATE CAFE?
We provide and facilitate these spaces online monthly to give caregivers the time to ‘be’ with climate change and all the feelings that come with that. A time where parents and carers can connect with one another and feel less isolated. This enables us to show up as more resilient parents navigating our way in a changing climate.
Our Parent Cafes are led by facilitators who trained with the Climate Psychology Alliance and are a way for us to connect with one another, and whatever we’re feeling, away from the busyness and overwhelm of day to day life.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
The Cafes are held online for up to 90 minutes with 3-12 people. Everyone has the opportunity to share how they feel for 2 minutes after an introductory round. The process is then repeated to expand on what was shared, or maybe respond to what someone else has shared. Joining, just to listen is very welcome.
These sessions are for parents and caregivers only because we want to keep the groups small so there are limited spaces available. If this month is full, please join our waitlist so we can provide another session if there is demand.
If you are not a parent or caregiver and feel this would be beneficial to you, we are happy to consider a general climate cafe if there is demand. Please email hello@parentsforclimatenz.org to express your interest.
