Navigating the Complexities of Adolescence and Anxiety seminar

The speaker at this event will be Professor Susan M Sawyer AM MBBS MD FRACP, whose qualifications include:

·        Geoff and Helen Handbury Chair of Adolescent Health

·        Department of Paediatrics, The University of Melbourne;

·        Director, Centre for Adolescent Health, Royal Children’s Hospital;

·        Murdoch Children’s Research Institute

·        Immediate Past-President, International Association for Adolescent Health (IAAH.org)

  

During this presentation Professor Sawyer will cover:

-            Adolescence and what it means in relation to the need to stand out, fit in, measure up and take hold

-            Is there an epidemic of anxiety?

-            When should I seek professional help for my anxious child?

-            The role of schools and families in raising resilient children

In addition, there may be some opportunity to cover:

·        The reasons why it is okay to be uncomfortable from an academic, social and emotional perspective

·        Risk taking and making mistakes in a supportive environment

·        The role of parents in allowing their child/young person to sit with being uncomfortable
