Parenting In An Era Of Climate Change

Event description

Being a parent often presents equal parts joy and challenges: we live in a complex world and our children look to us for answers, understanding and, above all things, the truth. So how do we provide this to them when we are facing climate change and the anxieties that this provokes for all of us? Instinctively we want to protect the ones we love from hard emotions, so we avoid talking about them. But avoidance only deepens the anxiety for everyone.

Join us and other parents from around Australia as we discuss how we face climate change both personally and as a parent.

In this workshop you will:

  • Share challenges about talking about climate change with your children
  • Safely and mindfully explore your emotions about climate change in a supported environment
  • Connect with and learn from like-minded parents
  • Develop emotional resilience in facing climate change
  • Learn how to support your child’s emotional well-being

It will be facilitated by a team of psychology and mindfulness experts, including Suzie Brown (Mindfulness teacher and Co-Founder of AP4CA), Dr Beth Hill (Program Development Coordinator), Dr Brenda Dobia (Psychologist) and Carla Pascoe Leahy (Historian and Researcher).

Places are limited due to the structure of the session. The session will not be recorded and attendees must be prepared to have their cameras on and engage in discussion.

We are charging a minimal fee to cover administrative costs:, these funds will be used to further promote and develop this session to benefit more parents just like you.

Australian Parents for Climate Action is the leading climate advocacy organisation for parents, carers, families and all who care about a safe future for kids. We educate and empower our supporters to make the climate safer for every child.  Founded in 2019 by six regional, rural and urban mums in four states and territories, we've grown rapidly to fill a critical gap in the climate movement. We are a parent organisation, run by parents for parents. https://www.ap4ca.org/

Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC) are a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2010 in Melbourne, Australia, to foster emotional engagement with climate change. PSC was founded in response to the lack of individual and community commitment to address the climate emergency. As psychologists and other helping professionals, we aim to use our professional knowledge and skills to increase understanding and engagement with the psychological impact of climate change. https://www.psychologyforasafeclimate.org
