Event description

Does your child or a child you work with have high expectations of self or others? Do they like things to be ‘just so’ or experience ‘paralysis by over-analysis’? There is no wrath like that of a perfectionist child when things don’t go to plan!

Anxiety and perfectionism can be common problems in gifted children, and sometimes present as anger, stubbornness or defiance. They can stop children from doing the things they want to do, and from speaking up when under pressure. They can also impact a child’s motivation to learn new skills and prevent them from succeeding in the classroom.

In this FREE webinar for gifted awareness week, Dr. Kate Aster will unpack the psychology of perfectionism and empower you to help your child increase their resiliency.

We will explore the roots of anxiety and perfectionism, how this might present at home or in the classroom, and how anxiety relates to emotional regulation. We will also look at practical strategies to help – for parents and teachers.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the kinds of perfectionism and their impact;

  • Learn how to identify signs of perfectionism and anxiety in your child;

  • Understand the potential factors contributing to perfectionism;

  • Learn practical strategies you can use to support your child and improve their resilience, at home and in the classroom.

After the presentation, stay for a Q&A session to receive personalised advice.

DATE & TIME: Wednesday May 28th at 7:00PM AWST
DURATION: One hour webinar + 30-60 minute Q&A session
LOCATION: Zoom

Note: registrations close at 5pm on the day of the event.

Kate specialises in helping individuals who are neurodivergent, especially those who are twice-exceptional, and has a keen interest in emotional regulation as this relates to giftedness; neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder), ASD (autism spectrum disorder), and specific learning and/or motor disorders; and trauma-based disorders. Having supported her own twice-exceptional children through the education system, Dr. Kate is a passionate advocate for at-risk students. She has a particular interest in anxiety, resilience, perfectionism, and academic acceleration.

About My Neurodivergent Child:

Raising a gifted or twice-exceptional child can often be a lonely journey.

When a family is already overwhelmed and exhausted, having to visit multiple therapists to support a child can be just one more thing that may tip a neurodivergent family’s time management and financial resources to breaking point. Not to mention that finding and then accessing a practitioner well-versed in neurodivergence, specifically giftedness and twice-exceptionality, can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

My Neurodivergent Child aims to foster a community of parents to gifted and twice-exceptional children, supporting you from the comfort of home, every day. We provide connection, advice, and high-quality resources via an affordable learning management system, walking alongside you as you navigate understanding, communicating with, and advocating for your child with confidence.
