Welcome to our series of workshops designed specifically for parents/guardians living with blindness or low vision. Facilitated by the Guide Dogs Victoria Wellbeing Team and parents with lived experience, these online sessions provide practical advice and supportive strategies for navigating everyday parenting challenges. Whether you're looking for tips on managing daily routines, fostering strong bonds with your child, or ensuring safety and independence, these workshops are designed to empower you with the tools and knowledge to thrive. Register for one or more sessions—each offering valuable insights to support you on your parenting journey. These workshops also provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to connect, share experiences, and offer their own strategies to create a supportive community.
Session 3 - Keeping Your Little Explorer Safe: Managing a Crawling Baby and Beyond
Some of the discussion topics will include:
- Tactile cues and safe zones for your baby / toddler
- Childproofing strategies that work well for parents/guardians with low or no vision
- Using sound and texture to keep track of baby's movements
- Gentle restraint techniques, such as highchairs, playpens and baby carriers when needed
