    Overview:

    Join MYST and some very special guest speakers for an informative and practical workshop which will explore and offer solutions and support in the areas of youth mental health, drugs and alcohol, building resilience after natural disasters, the impact of nature on wellbeing and much more.

    Participants can expect an engaging and insightful experience that aims to address specific issues you may be having and support and improve the wellbeing of young people

    Workshop details:

    Thursday June 20th - Doors open 5:30pm*, Speakers from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm, Wentworth Falls School of Art

    Thursday June 27th - Doors open 5:30pm*, Speakers from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Blaxland Community Centre 

    *Light dinner from 5:30pm will be provided upon arrival - bookings are essential.

    Speakers & Topics:

    Guest speakers will share the latest Planet Youth research conducted locally with high schools, which looks at risk and protective factors associated with problematic substance abuse and other issues young people deal with. Some findings highlight actions parents can do.

    Ian Scott from Rotary Club of Central Blue Mountains will present on Youth Mental Health First Aid Training. Ian's talk will cover an introduction to mental health issues, when to be concerned, what is mental health first aid and why it is important for young people, common types of mental illnesses and some possible signs, and what people learn in MHFA training. 

    MYST Manager of the Outdoor Explore program will share perspectives on how the bush can have a positive effect on wellbeing, and practical ways families can safely connect with nature and each other to build healthy minds, bodies and relationship!

    Local parent, artist, and MYST volunteer will discuss supporting and hearing our queer and neurodivergent youth, as well as practical things all parents can learn by listening to and respecting our children, and youth in general, helping to build stronger families and community.
