    Event description

Parents' Point is a monthly AGA event for the families of Intersex, Trans and Gender Diverse folks of all ages to connect with other families like theirs!

This month's Parents Point will have a guest speaker from the Paediatric Gender Service at Canberra Health Services.

Reece Jansen (they/them) is a Social Worker from the newly established Paediatric Gender Service at Canberra Health Services. This service provides gender affirming care to young people under 16 years old who live in the ACT. This service sees gender affirmation as a wholistic and complex process which is unique for each person, for some this may mean medical treatment including puberty blockers, hormones and/or surgery, however for others this may involve anything from legal name changes to understanding one’s identity better, to having a greater sense of support and community in who they are. This service seeks to explore with young people what affirmation looks like for them. For those who do want puberty blockers this service can provide this treatment and in certain circumstances other treatments may be available. Reece’s role within this service is to guide young people and their families through the service, to do gender explorative counselling, to enhance and support informed decision making and to work with the entire family to promote gender affirmation. Reece will be attending Parents Point to promote this service, as well as to answer any questions about the service that parents may have.

As usual, dinner will be provided!
