Parliament House Rocks - Earth Science Week Tour

As part of Earth Science Week 2026, Parliament House is partnering with Geoscience Australia to present Parliament House Rocks, a special family-friendly tour exploring the remarkable geology of Australia's iconic Parliament House.

Led by Geoscience Australia's Chief Scientist, Dr Steve Hill, this tour will uncover the fascinating stories behind the building's stones, granites and marbles.

Discover how carefully selected stones from Australia and around the world were used to tell the story of our nation, while exploring the building’s architecture, cultural symbolism and Canberra’s remarkable landscape. Learn how geology, history and design come together to make Parliament House one of Australia’s most significant and beautiful buildings.

Participants should meet in the Marble Foyer of Australian Parliament House, after passing through the main front security.

The tour will begin in the foyer before moving outside, where Dr Hill will share insights into the rocks, artwork and surrounding landscape features that help tell Canberra’s fascinating geological story.

As the majority of the tour is outside, please dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
