This is Part II of a two-part webinar series on Cultural Awareness & Cultural Safety' for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) people. It is highly recommended that Part I: Cultural Awareness was attended prior attending Part II: Cultural Safety.

CONTENT

Following the Skills Ministers’ announcement on October 1, 2024, regarding the revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), the Training Accreditation Council (TAC) has developed new webinars to address topics under key Quality Areas. TAC has engaged Aboriginal owned and operated provider, Kambarang Services, to develop and deliver a series of workshops addressing cultural awareness and cultural safety.

In this webinar Danny Ford, OAM, a Noongar man and a senior traditional custodian of Whadjuk Country, from Kambarang Services, will cover CULTURAL SAFETY for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) people.  This includes:

• A short reflection on key learnings from Part 1: Cultural Awareness
• What is Cultural Safety and why is it important in the VET sector?
• Current and topical issues on Cultural Safety eg Uluru statement, Voice referendum
• Supports, barriers and challenges for Aboriginal and Torres Strait (First Nations) people in VET learning environments
• Effective practices and tools that can be implemented in VET workplaces and applied in VET classrooms
• Short overview of cultural competency - applicable legislative/policy frameworks, governmental priority reforms
• Questions, discussion, reflections, where to from here for RTOs.
