Part 2: Reportable Conduct Investigations Workshop for Local Governments
Event description
Part 2: Reportable Conduct Investigations Workshop for Local Governments
**Limited capacity event**
What is the Reportable Conduct Scheme?
The Reportable Conduct Scheme (the Scheme) was introduced in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse. The purpose of the Scheme is to make Western Australian children safer.
The Scheme compels heads of organisations that exercise care, supervision or authority over children to notify allegations of, or convictions for, child abuse by their employees to the Ombudsman and then investigate these allegations. The Ombudsman will monitor, oversee and review these investigations.
What will this workshop cover?
This workshop will use a range of learning methods, including experiential learning activities, to support your understanding of:
- The importance of managing risks to children in your organisation’s care while an investigation is ongoing.
- How your organisation should conduct a reportable conduct investigation, including:
- types of evidence that can be considered
- managing conflicts of interest
- procedural fairness requirements
- ensuring the voice of alleged child victims and witnesses is heard
- factors to consider in weighing evidence and reaching findings
- What must be included in an investigation report to the Ombudsman
- How the Ombudsman will oversee your organisation’s investigation.
- What happens at the end of a reportable conduct investigation?
Who should attend?
Attending Part 1: An Introduction to the Reportable Conduct Scheme is a pre-requisite for attending this workshop. This workshop is only for people already familiar with the Scheme and those that are responsible for managing and conducting investigations into allegations of reportable conduct by local government employees.
To ensure this workshop is widely accessible, please coordinate registrations within your local government and limit registrations to three people per local government.
Due to the interactive nature of this workshop, no online registrations are available. The Reportable Conduct team at the Ombudsman is continuing to develop regional outreach plans.
