Event description

The SA Branch of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law (ANZAPPL) warmly invite you to a dinner seminar and panel discussion with special guests:

  • His Honour Judge Anthony Allen of the District Court of South Australia
  • Trish Johnson, Legal Services Commission of South Australia
  • Tracey Nelson, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (SA)

The operation of Part 8A of the Criminal Law Consolidation Act 1935 confuses many lawyers and experts alike. Our panel, made up of a District Court judge and two solicitors who specialise in Part 8A matters from opposite sides of the bar table, is sure to improve practitioners’ understanding of the law and practice for such matters.

Topics will include what can be learnt from the recent Court of Appeal decision in Murphy v The King, what is the significance of self-induced intoxication, what may assist to avoid a a trial on the question of mental incompetence, and how one should go about engaging an expert for assessment.
