Pattachitra painting workshop for beginners
Event description
Pattachitra is an ancient form of traditional Indian art originating from the states of Odisha and West Bengal. Known for its intricate detailing and mythological narratives, Pattachitra paintings are typically crafted on cloth or dried palm leaves using natural colors and pigments. The art style is characterised by bold lines, vibrant hues, and distinct iconography, often depicting stories from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as folklore and village life.
In this workshop led by master artists, participants will not only learn about the historical and cultural significance of Pattachitra but will also gain hands-on experience in preparing traditional materials, creating natural dyes, and mastering brush techniques to bring stories to life on canvas. Under the guidance of skilled artisans, participants will explore the unique methods that make Pattachitra a timeless art form, developing a deeper appreciation for the patience and precision involved in each piece. Each participant will create their own Pattachitra inspired artwork to tell a simple story through painting.
