Brendan Myhill

Brendan is a research officer with Sydney Local Health District, and is a co-convenor of the NSW/ACT network of Palliative Care Social Work Australia.. Brendan has a clinical background in palliative care social work in both inpatient and community settings, and is passionate about psychosocial care and bereavement, particularly the ways in which experiences in healthcare can shape bereavement outcomes.

Presentation: Trauma Informed Care, Advance Care Planning and grief – integrating approaches to enhance care

The session provides background to Trauma Informed Care, its key principles, and why it is a helpful approach in a palliative and end of life care setting. Results from the SLHD bereavement research project will be shared, including reports from bereaved family carers about whether care at end of life and in Advance Care Planning discussions were in line with the principles of Trauma Informed Care, and the connection between Advance Care Planning and their later experience of grief.

Nadim Assaf

Nadim is a registered pharmacist with experience in both community and hospital settings. He is the proprietor of Picton Pharmacy in Picton NSW.Nadim is also an Accredited Consultant Pharmacist having worked in the palliative and aged care space for the last 12 years, with a passion to help improve the quality of end-of-life care for the community.

Dementia Australia - Jillian Kidd and Allison Cummins

Presentation: Leading the way to excellence in Palliative Dementia Care: The NSW Nightingale Program

Jillian Kidd is Team Lead for the NSW Nightingale Program joining Dementia Australia in September 2023. Jillian continues in her 25 plus years in the Aged Care Sector to advocate for improved recognition and care for the rights and needs of People Living with Dementia. Having worked with a range of Aged Care Services across Governance and Risk, Education, Care Consultancy and Compliance has provided unique opportunities to collaborate, connect and build capability with clients, carers and staff, informing the development of local policy, procedure and education.

Allison Cummins is Registered Nurse and endorsed Nurse Practitioner with almost thirty years experience across acute care, public health, community and primary health and residential aged care settings. She is currently a professional member for the NSW Nursing and Midwifery Council and has had various roles with NCAT. Allison was excited to join Dementia Australia in November 2023 to be part of the establishment of the NSW Nightingale Program as an innovative CNC lead team, which kept people at the heart of its purpose. The most satisfying part of her role is hearing the stories of our clients and working together to recognise and support what’s important to them. Allison cares deeply about the recognition of the skill and expertise of nurses in aged care, and the importance of providing education delivering and services which meet the needs of the community.
