Peace Labs: Cultivating Dialogue
Description
What if dialogue isn’t something we “do” with our words—but something we cultivate from within?
In this 2.5-hour lab, we slow down and practice the foundations of real dialogue: self-regulation, attention, listening, and clear speech. We explore what happens in us when there’s disagreement—how certainty hardens, how fear narrows perception, how quickly we move into persuasion, defense, or withdrawal. And we practice another way.
This is an intimate, facilitated practice space (max 12) with guided exercises, partnered inquiry, and live “micro-dialogues.” You’ll leave with simple tools you can carry into family conversations, community spaces, workplace discussions, and any moment where the stakes feel personal.
What You’ll Practice
How to notice activation early (body signals, urgency, tight certainty)
A simple self-regulation sequence to stay grounded while speaking and listening
Listening for what matters beneath the words (needs, fears, values, belonging)
Speaking with clarity without escalation (especially when you disagree)
Using reflective language to de-polarize (“What I’m hearing is…,” “Tell me more about…”)
How to ask questions that open rather than corner
Micro-repairs: what to do when you feel yourself slip into reaction
Who Is This For?
Community members who want more meaningful conversations across difference
Facilitators, leaders, educators, faith/community organizers
Couples/family members who want less reactivity and more understanding
Anyone exhausted by polarization—and willing to practice a different way
No prior experience needed.
