About Aaron
Aaron Shneyer’s unique blend of folk, rock, and world music celebrates life and hopes to heal our divides. A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Aaron grew up in the Washington, DC area, spent years living in Jerusalem, and now lives in Washington, DC's Takoma neighborhood. He performs both solo and with a soulful band of DC’s finest jazz, gospel, world music, funk and reggae musicians. With influences like Caetano Veloso, Paul Simon, Miriam Makeba, G-Love, and Jimi Hendrix, Aaron weaves together elements of Rock 'n Roll, Folk, and the music of South America, Africa, and the Middle East.
A 2008 Fulbright-MTV Fellowship took him to Jerusalem where he formed Heartbeat (www.heartbeat.fm), an organization that harnesses music's power to transform conflict. Active within the Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding community, continually promoting the intersection of music and activism, Aaron has performed with cherished Palestinian and Israeli artists including Mira Awad, TootArd, Sameh “Saz” Zakout, Gabriel Meyer Halevy, and Nava Tehila.
Since 2015 he has served as the Music Director at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue and in 2023 became the Service Leader at the Adat Shalom Congregation. He has been recognized five times as an Artist Fellow with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Aaron produces the Interwoven music and dialogue concert series and continues to write, record, publish and perform new music, striving to harness music's power to open hearts and minds, to inspire, to imagine, and to build the future.
