Pearces Creek Talks - Biodiversity and Syntropy in Landscape Management and Farming Systems
Event description
Biodiversity and Syntropy in Farming and Landscape Management
Join us for an evening with Brian Wehlburg, and Nicole and Tom Bjorksten.
Tom and Nicole describe their farming system as 'Syntropic', focussing on the cycling of nutrients within the farming system through planting and building biodiversity with few external inputs.
Brian educates land managers on how to view the whole, managing complex systems (nutrient, energy, water) through building biodiversity and reducing reliance on external inputs such as diesel and petro chemical based fertilisers.
There will be learnings and discussion here around landscape health, water and nutrient cycling (relevant to river health here in the Northern Rivers), animal and human health and farm profitability.
It's now five years on since these speakers shared the stage together, so we will also take the opportunity to review progress across Australian and Northern Rivers landscapes, and at our neighbours venture here in Booyong/Pearces Creek.
Brian Wehlburg is a Holistic Management educator, who (along with thousands of Australian land managers) has trained me (Simon), Tom, and Nicole in how to manage complex ecosystems to benefit both farm productivity, animal and and human health, biodiversity and the ecological landscape.
Tom and Nicole Bjorksten have taken Misty Creek Agroforestry from a bare cow paddock to a thriving ecological jewel, growing vegetables, chickens for eggs and meat, and organic beef.
This event is intended to be a discussion, so each speaker will have 15-20 minutes to share their journey over the last few years, and then we will open up for a discussion for the next 40 minutes.
