2026 Restore Pedder Bioblitz
Description
Join us in the beautiful Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area this spring for our annual Bioblitz! We're heading down to the Scotts Peak Dam Area in Southwest Lutruwita / Tasmania from Saturday 21st - Sunday 22nd November for two days of citizen science.
No experience is needed, just bring yourself, your mates, your family and join us for a series of surveys on local plants and animals with our science experts. Come for a day or stay for the weekend!
WHERE: Meet us at the Huon Campground in the Southwest National Park
WHEN: Saturday 21st - Sunday 22nd November
WHAT: A series of citizen led flora and fauna surveys to document local species, invasive species and other threats
WHY: Help us to establish and understand the baseline environmental condition surrounding the Pedder Impoundment
ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
For those wanting to stick around for the weekend, camping is available at Huon Campground at the southern end of the impoundment where we will be surveying, and at Ted's Beach campground near Strathgordon. Other nearby options include the Pedder Wilderness Lodge (please contact the lodge), or in Maydena, both of these locations are about an equal distance drive from Scotts Peak Dam.

- What is a Bioblitz?
A Bioblitz is a fun, community-led biodiversity survey where we work together to record as many species as possible in a set time and place using the iNaturalist field app.
Your observations help build the evidence base for restoring Lake Pedder.
- How do I get there?
The Pedder Empowerment is about 2.5 hours away from Hobart by car (in good conditions).
Carpooling is recommended. Once you have registered, you are able to organise your carpool through a Whatsapp Chat.
- What do I need to bring?
BYO water, food, camping gear, torch, camera (optional), wet weather clothes, cold weather clothes, hot weather clothes (plan for everything!), and phone

- What if I don't have a car?
That’s all good! Join our WhatsApp chat to organise carpooling and lifts. You'll receive a link to join this group once you grab your ticket. This doesn't ensure a carpool spot, these are dependent on availability of drivers and seats in cars but we'll do our best to get you there!
- Accommodation Options
Camping at Huon or Teds Beach campgrounds or book accommodation at the Pedder Wilderness Lodge or in the town of Maydena. You need to organise your own accommodation.
