    Event description

Please join us for 'People Powered Politics', the fourth annual Convention of the Community Independents movement. Turbocharging the movement’s networking and sharing, the Convention is a must-attend event for community leaders, volunteers and anyone passionate about harnessing the collective power of communities to create a better future for Australia.

    • Connect, share and collaborate: network with like-minded change-makers, volunteers and community leaders, key campaigners and organisations supporting the movement
    • Gain practical insights and tools: hear and chat to thought leaders, key organisations and campaign experts on strategies for the upcoming federal election
    • Be inspired: gain an insiders view on how Community Independents are disrupting politics as usual and changing the national conversation
    • Celebrate and amplify: putting people at the centre of politics.

Be part of our special networking event on the evening of Friday 21st, 6.30-8pm as we set the scene for Saturday 22nd 9am-5pm. If you can't make the entire day, Convention registrants will receive a link to the recordings the following week. See Program details on our website and please contact us if ticket cost is a barrier to your attendance.

All the Community Independents will join us - Allegra Spender MP, Zali Steggall OAM MP, Sophie Scamps MP, Kylea Tink MP, Monique Ryan MP, Zoe Daniel MP, Helen Haines MP, Kate Chaney MP and Senator David Pocock. Pulling back the curtains on our political system, working with their communities and championing critical issues from tax reform, cost of living and housing affordability to integrity and climate action, showing how politics can be done differently.

They are joined by a stellar line up including Richard Denniss (Australia Institute), Konrad Benjamin (Punter's Politics), Osher Günsberg (Better than Yesterday), Brook Turner (author of Independents' Day) to name a few, together with over 20 panelists who will facilitate interactive campaign sessions including:

    • Volunteer and community engagement
    • Fundraising
    • Legal
    • Connecting with community in regional and rural communities
    • Understanding and using media
    • Media and PR
    • Tech tools
    • Data driven campaigning
    • Electorate outreach
    • Managing the ups and downs of your team
    • Campaign resources
    • How to get elected

As well as being able connect directly with key campaigners and organisations supporting the movement, there will also be opportunities for networking with like-minded people in your state, territory and electorate.

A direct line can be drawn from the 2021 'Getting Elected' Convention to the success of Community Independents at the 2022 Election. Convention 2022 celebrated this seismic change in Australian politics and focused on 'Empowered Communities: Next Steps'. In 2023 we spotlighted inspiring local communities with 'Get Political: Communities Taking Action'. The 2024 'People Powered Politics' Convention continues to build on the themes of these landmark Conventions.

As always the magic happens when everyone comes together, generously sharing, paying it forward, networking and collaborating, united in a common purpose - people driven politics for a better Australia.

We can't wait to see you!
