'People Watching' is the original project of Naarm-based pianist and composer Saffi Campbell Walker. This work is a collection of stories of how family, friends and the people around us shape our lives and allow us to develop deeper understandings of our responsibilities in the world.
Through her exploration of rhythmic ostinatos inspired by Latin-American music and use of European-impressionist harmony, the quintet performs with a playful connectivity. The project draws on the importance of patience and thoughtfulness in conversations about imperialism and patriarchy, and how these conversations with loved ones are vital to creating change.
Saffi Campbell Walker - piano, compositions
Jerush Perera - drums
Joshua McDonald - guitar
Isaac Randel - tenor sax
Jack Harris - double bass
Gauri Singh is a Naarm-based vocalist and composer.
