PEPA WA Palliative Approach to Care for All Health Care Professionals working in Esperance.
Come and join us for an interactive session, utilising group discussion and case studies to provide participants with a greater understanding of palliative care.
Target Audience: Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Medical Staff, Aboriginal Health Workers and Liaison Officers, Assistants in Nursing etc.
Education Overview:
Aim of the education if for participants develop knowledge, skills and confidence in the palliative approach to care for when caring for clients and families with a life-limiting illness. This includes fostering an understanding of the principles of palliative care, such as holistic, person-centred care, symptom management and assessment, and advanced care planning, communicating effectively with your clients and families, identifying the deteriorating phase and caring for yourself as the health professional.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding what the palliative approach is.
- Delivering holistic person, carer and family centred care.
- Developing communication skills in end-of-life and palliative care.
- Understanding Advance Care Planning within WA and how to start the conversation with your client.
- Identify, assess and manage common palliative symptoms.
- Identify appropriate palliative care tools.
- Identify the terminal stage and care after death.
- Understanding of local palliative care services and referral process.
- Caring for yourself the health professional.
Department of Health-End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework
The End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework is a tool outlining the essential knowledge and skills for healthcare professionals caring for those with end-of-life needs. It consists of three domains: Principles of Practice, Clinical Management, and Leadership/Management. Each domain's learning items are categorised into three expertise levels: Foundation, Consolidation, and Extension, forming a continuum of learning.
