Palliative Approach to Care Education (Kalamunda Hospital)
Target Audience : Nurses, Medical, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners, Allied Health, Facility Managers, Students.
Education Overview: To develop knowledge, skills and confidence in the palliative approach to care for individual health professionals and various workforce groups working in primary care, enabling them to effectively implement the palliative approach to care. This includes fostering an understanding of the principles of palliative care, such as holistic, person-centred care, symptom management and assessment, and advanced care planning, communicating effectively with your clients and families, identifying the deteriorating phase and caring for yourself as the health professional.

- Understanding what the palliative approach is.
- Delivering holistic person, carer and family centred care.
- Developing communication skills in end-of-life and palliative care.
- Understanding Advance Care Planning within WA and how to start the conversation with your client.
- Identify, assess and manage common palliative symptoms
- Identify appropriate palliative care tools.
- Identify the terminal stage and care after death
- Understanding of local palliative care services and referral process.
- Caring for yourself the health professional
