“Ko wai au” Who Am I

My tribal affiliations are Te Arawa (Rotorua), Tūwharetoa (Taupo), Ngai Tahu, Waitaha, Kati Mamoe (Te Waipounamu) and my research is a return to my Southern Māori roots, acknowledging and reconnecting with my whakapapa.   As an experienced performer, musician and practitioner of both the Arts and Māori Performing Arts, it is my intention that my research will help inspire a pathway for future generations, provide new information around the influences of Western Sacred Music, Missionaries and the whakapapa of Karakia, Moteatea.  

“Wairua Waiata’ (Sacred Songs)

My creative arts performance Recital provides an engagement with classical sacred music and hymns that were translated from the Bible into Te Reo Māori by the Missionaries.   They weave a musical palate of both popular western Oratorio and Māori reimagining of hymns in Te Reo Māori which are still performed at Ngāi Tahu gatherings today.  My program has some popular Oratorio; Stabat Mater, Panis Angelicus, Pie Jesu, Laudate Dominum, and Hymns; Amazing Grace, Nearer, To God, Are Thee, How Great Thou Art.
