Event description

We are excited to announce our Inaugural Permaculture Design Course. This course is offered in collaboration with PEA – Permaculture Educators Alliance.

Permaculture is an approach to designing landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature, while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for local needs. You will discover that not a lot of space is needed to design a productive garden that looks as good as it tastes and helps create a more sustainable environment. Our course will focus on urban and suburban permaculture and how to design small spaces to be more productive, efficient and beautiful.

Across the ten days you will spend time in the classroom as well as getting your hands dirty in the gardens at Perth City Farm. You will learn all about:

  • Permaculture ethics, principles, zones, elements and functions
  • Small space growing solutions
  • Theory and practice: soil, soil biology, compost and worm farming
  • Plant propagation
  • Retrofitting where you live
  • Community building
  • Useful alternative technologies
  • Animals for small properties
  • Responsible water management and use
  • And much more
  • You’ll leave with: new knowledge and skills, new friends and oodles of inspiration and enthusiasm

Your teachers:

Martina holds a Diploma in Permaculture, is the director of PEA and Education Lead at Perth City Farm. She has lived, breathed and taught Permaculture since 2016. Martina is particularly passionate about urban and suburban permaculture living, community building and practical solutions that make sense.

Sarah is Perth City Farm’s Garden Educator and has completed the Fair Harvest PDC and  Permaculture Teacher Training with Rosemary Morrow. Her gift is to help things grow, whether that is plants, compost piles, or people.

There will be guest teachers and excursions to interesting permaculture properties, among them the locally famous Ecoburbia and Jetto’s Patch.

The course runs full-time for two weeks, Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm in the first week and Tue-Sat in the second week.

If you would prefer to pay over two installments via bank transfer (incurring a $20 admin fee) please contact us at education@perthcityfarm.org.au.

Perth City Farm is the ideal course location for this Permaculture Design Course. A vibrant urban farm in the heart of Perth, with numerous learning opportunities on site. We are located right next to Claisebrook Station, so easy to reach with public transport.
