ABOUT THE FILM:  CITIZEN GEORGE (2024)

CITIZEN GEORGE presents the life and work of 86 year old Philadelphia-based Quaker activist George Lakey, a non-violent revolutionary who has worked his entire life for justice and peace, guided by his ideal of societal transformation.

CITIZEN GEORGE moves back and forth in time, highlighting specific events of George's activist life—including fighting for civil rights, anti-Vietnam War activism, LGBTQ rights, human rights in Sri Lanka and climate justice. In addition to detailing his life as an activist, Citizen George tells George's personal journey as a husband, father and out gay man. Animated sequences, inspired by graphic novels, illustrate scenes from George's life.

Since the age of 19, George has been conscious of his life's purpose—to use whatever gifts he has to work for justice and peace. Today, in 2025, George's message of a nonviolent revolution is more urgent than ever.

All tickets are offered pay-as-you-like, thanks and the Permaculture Education Institute who has kindly paid for the cost of the screening license with Bullfrog Films. All payments are collected by our registered charity, Ethos Foundation, and Morag sends 100% to support fair share permaculture design education - mostly led by and for women and youth. Morag also offers free permaculture mentoring to all these teams through the Permaculture Education Institute.

Morag Gamble is a lifetime [pr]activist for people, the planet and peace. Her form of activism is permaculture education. She is the founder of the Permaculture Education Institute teaching permaculture educators and designers on six continents. She has lived for a quarter of a century in an award-winning ecovillage. Morag has also created Sense-Making in a Changing World Podcast, and the Our Permaculture Life BLOG and YouTube collectively viewed millions of times. She hosts the International Permaculture Festival of Ideas, the Ethos Fellowship alongside Schumacher College Fellow, Fritjof Capra, and leads the Ethos Foundation - a registered charity offering free localised permaculture education for refugees.
