Event description

Two stunning new chamber works premiere within MOD.'s Forever exhibition, where composers have worked alongside museum researchers to explore themes of time, memory, and transformation through music. Commissioned by Chamber Music Adelaide in partnership with MOD. and supported by Create SA.

David Kotlowy | sometimes
For Guzheng and Baroque String Trio

An extraordinary collision of ancient Chinese and European musical traditions, exploring how we experience time—from the relentless tick of a metronome to the fluid, personal flow of "being time". David brings decades of experience founded on global cultural exchange to this collaboration between Baroque String Trio and acclaimed Guzheng performer, Zhao Liang.

Amelia Rooney | THE TREES ARE TURNING OFF!
For String Trio and Live Electronics

Haunting sonic landscapes emerge as Adelaide Baroque's strings are manipulated through laptop-generated sound, alongside live performance. This exploration of ecological decay captures the urgency of climate change through evolving, immersive soundscapes. Amelia, currently completing dual degrees in Creative Writing and Sonic Arts at Elder Conservatorium, creates music that imagines speculative futures.

These new commissions will be complemented by works from the baroque era reflecting themes that have always been with humanity - of the passage of life, and our limited time in this mortal existence - featuring works of passion and pathos from early London and Venice by Henry Purcell, Francesco Turini and Biagio Marini.

Performers:

Adelaide Baroque: Ben Dollman, violin, Runa Baagoe, violin, Heidi Von Bernewitz, viola, Thomas Marlin, cello

Zhao Liang, guzheng

Amelia Rooney, laptop
