Description

Learn practical permaculture skills for urban life.

At some point, a lot of us start asking the same questions. Is there a better way to live? How do I rely less on a system that feels increasingly uncertain? How do I build a life that actually feels good - not just busy?

The Resilient Living Course was created for exactly that stage of life. It's a five-day, hands-on course at Perth City Farm for people who want real skills, not just inspiration - and who are ready to do something practical about the way they live.

Now running for the third time in October 2026, this course brings together the best of Perth City Farm's education offering into one immersive experience. Across five full days, you'll learn:

  • Productive food growing, soil, compost and propagation

  • Foraging, edible weeds, fermenting and healing with plants

  • Urban wildlife and ecology, climate and water use

  • Alternative energy use, transport and planning for disaster

  • Alternative living models, building community and careers

  • The permaculture framework, ethics and zones

This isn't a theory class. You'll work with your hands, make things you take home, and walk away each day with something tangible to show for it. Where a Permaculture Design Course teaches you to design a system, this course teaches you the actual how - the skills you can put to use immediately, no matter how much land (or lack of it) you're working with.

Most people who come along aren't beginners looking for a fun weekend - they're busy people with careers, families and full lives who just want a bit more confidence in how they do things. They leave with practical skills, a few new friends, and a different way of looking at everything from their grocery shop to their backyard.

This course is exclusive to Perth City Farm, developed to make use of our unique working urban farm. The teaching will be hands-on, practical and fun, and geared towards what’s possible in an urban setting. We split the five days over three weeks, so you have time to reflect and absorb the learning and fit it in with other commitments.

Course dates

Five days spread over three weeks to fit around your life:

  • Saturday 3 October: 9 am – 3 pm

  • Sunday 4 October: 9 am – 3 pm

  • Saturday 10 October: 9 am – 3 pm

  • Saturday 17 October: 9 am – 3 pm

  • Sunday 18 October: 9 am – 3 pm

Location

All sessions will occur at Perth City Farm in East Perth, in our education room and out in the Farm and gardens. City Farm has excellent public transport links, bike parking and paid car parking nearby.
