    Event description

Please text Playback Theatre Member Natalie on 0473 031 419 to ensure that Playback Theatre is what you are looking for and more details.  If being part of Perth Playback Theatre is something that interests you then we would love to see you at our open rehearsals and workshops.  These are our entry points to becoming a member.

Join Perth Playback Theatre for our unique workshop, in a creative, fun, and supportive environment, that will build your performance confidence.  These inclusive workshops cover the fundamental skills needed to develop great on-stage performances.  We will focus on movement, voice, creativity, impulse and teamwork.  We cater to all skill levels, even those with no prior experience.  Perfect for actors, musicians, theatre-makers, facilitators, teachers, storytellers, or simply those with a heart for others. We will be exploring different materials at each of our workshops.

Playback Theatre is a powerful performance methodology where creativity meets empathy in a respectful, dynamic, fun, creative space. We are a collaborative, vibrant, ensemble of performers who investigate the breadth of human experience, explore imaginative play and connect in a deep way. We are drawn together by a desire to provide creative, meaningful work to the community through volunteer acts of service and paid performances. Audiences are enriched by our improvised performances, as they are gently guided through their collective memories, which our performers and musician creatively re-interpret while honouring the heart and humanity. We invite you to experience the artistry and impact of Playback Theatre – improv with a heart.

    ABOUT PLAYBACK THEATRE

Playback Theatre is a powerful performance methodology where creativity meets empathy. Running for 50 years, it has expanded to 192 groups across 40 countries. Grounded in oral storytelling, social justice, philanthropy and community-building, it’s designed to be highly accessible. It provides audiences and participants the opportunity to be seen and heard in a safe space, and gives dignity and honour to what is shared, while building empathy and connection.

Perth Playback Theatre company has celebrated its 40th anniversary, and continues the tradition of grassroots community engagement through volunteer Acts of Service and paid performances. These include schools and universities, conferences, opening ceremonies, birthday celebrations, themed functions, Fringe Festival and free regular Open Rehearsals (open to public) in addition to member-only rehearsals.

Audiences are enriched by our collaborative, improvised performances, where our Conductor guides the room through a journey of the audience’s memories, covering the breadth of human experience, from the hilarious to the poignant. Our actors and musician creatively re-enact the nuances of each Teller’s real-life experience through music, voice, and body language. Boxes and coloured fabrics assist with symbolic representation, and narrative technique, as we honour the heart, longings, and humanity of any possible moment.

Playback members value rehearsals as a respectful, dynamic, fun, creative space, with unlimited opportunity to investigate experiences and life choices without judgement. Our collaborative, vibrant ensemble are drawn together by a desire to provide meaningful, creative work of value to the community. They meet to explore imaginative play, extend and hone their performance skills, and connect in a deeper and more personal way. Please get in touch with your expressions of interest.

We invite you to join us, to come along, be warmed, amazed, challenged, laugh, play, make new friends, see old friends in new ways. Share in the vastness of human experience, reflect and learn about yourself, in the hobby of being human with other humans.  Savour the artistry and impact of communal memory-sharing.  Welcome to Playback Theatre – Improv With a Heart.
