Pesky Punctuation: Pop-up Writing Workshop
Event description
February 21 at 11:30am Pacific Time
Defined simply, hyphens are joiners of words, and dashes indicate ranges and pauses, but as all writers know, hyphens and dashes are hardly ever simple. Used incorrectly, they can confuse readers and cause clunky sentences. Visually, they can look cluttered, especially if they become a habit. These pesky punctuation marks, however, can clarify, enlighten, and emphasize. Join Amy Cecil Holm, Allegory Editing line editor, copy editor, and proofreader, for a quick dash through the basics of hyphens, en dashes, and em dashes on Friday, Feb. 21, at 11:30 a.m. PST.Â
Presenter Bio: As a copy editor and proofreader, Amy draws upon decades of teaching college English to help authors polish their prose. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in creative writing and has worked as a journalist, technical writer, and educator. Amy has taught courses in English composition, literature, creative writing, journalistic writing, business writing, and developmental reading, among others. She has a keen understanding of grammar, punctuation, and diction and uses her careful attention to detail to help prepare manuscripts for submission and publication.
